Vacation Plans for 2010

I am taking Web Technologies courses at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC). One of my courses this semester is " WEB 285 - Emerging Web Technologies". An assignment for this course is to create a Blog, so I decided to create a Blog related to our travels. Since we have timeshares, we plan most of our trips several months in advance. We already have several trips planned for the upcoming year:

February - Las Vegas, NV
Feb. 10-12 Hilton Grand Vacation
Feb. 12-15 Polo Towers Suites

April - Hilton Head, SC
Apr. 17-24 Marriott's Monarch Resort in Sea Pines

June - Hawaii
June 05-06 Marriott's Waikiki Beach Resort
June 06-13 Marriott's Maui Ocean Club
June 13-18 Marriott's Kaua'i Beach Club
June 18-19 Marriott's Waikiki Beach Resort

Aug./Sept. - Hilton Head, SC
Aug. 28 - Sept. 4 Southwind II in Shipyard Plantation

October - Arizona
Oct. 03-10 Marriott's Canyon Villas at Desert Ridge
Oct. 10-13 Sedona Summit

In addition to these vacations, we will also take some weekend trips to areas within driving distance of Greensboro - Myrtle Beach, Charleston, SC, and the NC mountains.

Background Information:

I grew up in Johnson City, TN, with my parents and 2 older sisters, Nancy & Sue. I have 7 nieces and nephews - most of them are married now, with children of their own. I attended University School, a 12-year school on the campus of East TN State University. I was a cheerleader in high school. I graduated in 1978, and began attending ETSU. During college, I was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. I graduated in 1982, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Sciences. I moved to Greensboro, NC in February, 1983.

Personal Information:

Brian & I met on Valentine's Day of 1984, and we got married in May, 1985. We had a calico cat named Tiger and a border collie/spitz named Oreo for about 15 years. We have our second family now. We have two adorable Papillion dogs - Matty is 6 and Bailey is 4. We also have three cats - Blackie, Tuxie, and Smokey Bear.

Brian & I enjoy traveling, and this blog will be related to our trips. We have six weeks of timeshares, which we use for vacations in Hilton Head, Arizona, Southern California, and other destinations. We have planned a 2-week trip to Hawaii this Summer, to celebrate our 25th anniversary! We enjoy laying out in the sun, shopping, and eating out. In my free-time, I enjoy working on photo albums and scrapbooks from our trips, but I have to admit that I am pretty far behind on my scrapbook projects. I plan to update a website that I created in 2005 with pictures from our vacations.

Career Information:

I moved to Greensboro in February, 1983 to start working at Western Electric, as an Application Developer. Western Electric became part of AT&T, and I worked on the Corporate Payroll System, written mostly in COBOL. In 1990, I began working on HR Systems, using a Decision Support System (DSS) tool called Oracle Express. In 1996, AT&T created a spin-off company, Lucent Technologies. I transferred to Lucent, still working on HR Systems. In 1997, Lucent outsourced the HR Systems Development group to IBM Global Services. I was an I/T Specialist at IBM, and I worked on the Lucent account for almost ten years. Our group worked with the Lucent HR Organization, to develop and maintain HR Applications. I was responsible for the HR Reporting Systems on the Web. The reports were written in FOCUS, and there was some HTML and JavaScript code for the user interface screens. At the end of the 10-year contract between Lucent and IBM, I became a Software Configuration Manager (SCM) for various internal IBM projects. I was laid off in April, 2009, when IBM sent thousands of US jobs to India, China, and Brazil. I've enjoyed the time off work, but now it is time to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I am taking courses in the WEB Technologies curriculum at GTCC to enhance my skills in Web Development.
